The F1 year will comprise either 3x4 month posts or 4x3 month posts. The F2 year comprises 3x4 month posts, one of which is a dedicated 4 month academic placement. All rotations include posts delivering high quality clinical service and training in acute medicine and surgery. All programmes will deliver training for postholders to achieve a range of academic competencies and the clinical competencies required by the Curriculum for the Foundation Years in Postgraduate Education and Training and for full registration with the General Medical Council.

Academic posts are in specialties including Endocrinology, Nephrology, Medical physiology, Public Health/Clinical Epidemiology, Surgery, Psychiatry, Paediatrics and General Practice. For full details see documents below.

Candidates must be eligible for provisional registration with GMC by 1 August 2010.

their academic quartile (as provided to the national online application system), their overall ranking in
their year, or a copy of their up to date grade transcript.

The programmes are suitable both for final year medical students who have made firm decisions to commit to an academic career and for those who wish to explore their potential for a career in medical research and/ or education in their foundation programme prior to applying for specialty training.

The successful candidates will be appointed to a two year Foundation Training Programme within the Severn Foundation School.

The Postgraduate Dean confirms that these training programmes have the required educational and Dean’s approval.

All training programmes are equally open to those who may, either from the outset or subsequently, wish to train flexibly.

All candidates should read the information in the section on academic foundation programmes on the UKFPO website before applying. In particular they should take note of the eligibility process for the posts.
