PLEASE NOTE: Following a Dept of Health directive, Severn – along with all other Foundation Schools in England – has removed 6 programmes, reducing our total number of vacancies to 262 (excluding Academic FPs).  All applicants should have received an email from the UKFPO explaining the background to this directive.  Severn has removed the following programmes:

1. Is Severn part of the national Foundation Programme application process?
Yes.
2. Can I apply to more than one Foundation School?
You only submit one application, but you will need to rank all Foundation Schools in case your application to your first choice is unsuccessful.
3. Is Severn an importer or exporter of applicants?
We are an importer.
4. How many places are in the Severn Foundation School? How many local graduates are there?
We will have approximately 280 vacancies in our Foundation School. Bristol Medical School will have approximately 275 graduates in 2009.
5. I am an overseas applicant/graduate – am I eligible to apply?

7. What type of programmes are available?
Foundation Programmes in the Severn Foundation School are all two years in duration. The F1 and F2 years are either three blocks of four months, or four blocks of three months.
8. Where can I find details of programmes/posts?
A programme list will be available on this website in due course.
9.

Will there be programmes in academic medicine?
Yes, there will be programmes incorporating academic medicine at F2. However, these were recruited to in July/August.

10.

Will trainees be permitted to apply to undertake F2 overseas?
Yes, we allow F2 to be undertaken overseas. The current guidance can be found here F2 Overseas.

11.

Will you be honouring linked applications for allocation to programme?
Linked applications will be recognised for allocation to Foundation School, but NOT for allocation to trust or programme.

12.

Will there be interviews?
No, we will not be using interviews to allocate applicants to programme. Successful applicants will be asked to rank programmes online, then allocated using the score by which they were allocated to Foundation School.

13.

When does the general application process open?
Monday 27 October 2008.

14.

When does the application process close?
Friday 7 November 2008. Late applications will NOT be accepted.

15.

How do I apply?
Please see the national Foundation Programme website.

16.

Do I need references?
Yes, you will need to supply details of two referees. References will not be scored, but if your application is successful, they will be forwarded to the Trust to which you are allocated. The taking up of references is a statutory requirement of employment.

17. When will results be announced?
January 2009 (allocation to Foundation School) and March 2009 (allocation to programme).
18. When is Shadowing?
The Shadowing (Preparing for Professional Practice) course for Bristol medical students will be 9 - 20 March 2009. Shadowing is organised by Bristol Medical School, in association with the Trusts. If you are not a Bristol student, you may be able to negotiate an alternative Shadowing period with your F1 Trust.
19. Who can I ask about Terms and Conditions, pay and accommodation?

20. What date does F1 start in 2009?
Tuesday 4 August.
21. If I am not eligible for F1, how do I apply for F2?
There may be a limited number of ‘stand alone’ F2 posts available, which will be advertised and filled directly by the Trusts.
