Bristol Royal Hospital for ChildrenSuccessful Applicants to Severn Foundation School

Congratulations on your allocation to the Severn Foundation School, for Foundation Programmes beginning August 2010.

The next stage in the process is to identify your programme preferences via the online application system at www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk. All Severn programmes detailed on the national application system are available as a   Programme List for ease of reference. Information on the acute Trusts, including Trust Profiles and Trainee Testimonials, is available.

As you know, Severn held a ‘Welcome Fair’ for all successful applicants on Tuesday 5 January 2010.  This event was intended to give you the opportunity to learn more about the Severn Foundation School, its Trusts and programmes, before the deadline for ranking programmes in preference order.  Representatives from all our Trusts were present.  Thanks to all those who attended - please see our Welcome Fair webpage for copies of the presentations given on the day.

Applicants will be allocated to programme based on the highest score to highest available preference.  There are 270 programmes of linked F1 and F2 posts within the Severn Foundation School (including two Academic Programmes).

PLEASE NOTE - the application forms of those candidates who rank the Academic Foundation Programmes within their top ten will be assessed against the Severn Person Specification for Academic Foundation Programmes, 2010 entry, which is also published with the relevant programme descriptions on the national online application system.  There will be no separate interviews for these programmes.

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO RANK ALL 270 PROGRAMMES IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE BY MONDAY 25 JANUARY 2010.  If you have not ranked your preferences by this time, you will be randomly allocated to a programme.

Histogram of Application Scores is available.

Please note that allocation to foundation school and programme is subject to the following:

  • Successful completion of your medical undergraduate degree (where applicable)
  • Satisfactory pre-employment checks
  • Satisfactory references
  • Successful completion of national clinical assessment (where applicable)

Please also see our Frequently Asked Questions page.

If, having read the information available, you have further queries or questions about training in the Severn Foundation School, please email them to Severn.Foundation@southwest.nhs.uk.

We look forward to meeting you on 5 January.  Have a good Christmas and New Year.
